Defending American Citizens against a Military State

(A Living Document)

Type: Action

Proposed by: Patrick Jon

History: amended version (coming) consented to at GA on Saturday 12/03/2011

What:

On December 1, 2011, the Senate passed by a vote of 93-7 the $662 billion National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012. In this bill, Subtitle D, sections 1031 through section 1037 declares American soil a battlefield, giving the President and all future Chief Executives the authority to make US citizens subject to military apprehension and detainment for life without access to a trial or attorney. This bill violates the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C. § 1385), as it will allow federal military personnel to engage in domestic law enforcement. Written by John McCain and Carl Levin and approved by the Senate, this action is a clear threat to the safety and solidarity to any American Citizen. With a failing 9% approval rating, our government is making a fear based decision and are endangering the lives of millions of their protesters, students, teachers, local authorities, and any individual who falls under the title, “American Citizen”. We, not more than ever, need to act against this atrocious reaction.

How:

There are three imperative actions that must be taken in periodical steps.

President Obama has threatened to veto the entire defense bill if this provision passed through the Senate, which it has. This weekend, we take the first action to bring attention to the public and to President Obama.

1. Spreading awareness

A. Immediately calling, texting, instant messaging, tweeting, facebooking, Skyping, redditing the message, “The National Defense Authorization Act is going to grant the military the authority to detain any American citizen indefinitely! Please research; come your own conclusions, then HELP SAVE OUR COUNTRY!”

B. Emergency March Sunday at noon around the streets of City Hall. This issue pertains to our government and shall be treated strictly as a Government issue. We march against the outrageous $633 Billion Dollar Defense Budget, and we march against making America a battlefield and its citizens criminals. After the March, we pollinate the streets of Downtown, creating a massive local awareness within our community, reconvening at City Hall at 5pm.

If the President veto’s the bill, the Bill will return to the House of Representatives to attempt to pass within the House, receiving the 2/3rds needed to pass the bill. We need to stop that before it ever reached the House of Representatives.

2. CALL OUR LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES!
- Go to www.house.gov/representatives/ to start calling every single representative you can.
It is imperative we reach the moral compass of our representatives before the bill does.

Within the worst case scenario, if the President adopts the bill or it passes the House of Representatives, and the provisions, “Subtitle D, Sec. 1031, Sec. 1032, Sec 1033, Sec. 1034, Sec. 1035, Sec. 1036, Sec. 1027”, are included and still reads,

“the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons …  pending disposition under the law of war.”

We, as Occupy Los Angeles, have no choice but to take the following Action:

3. Occupy Los Angeles declares treason against the United States Government.
-  This declaration acts as the first stand to protect and preserve the United States of America, its Citizens, and its original governing ideals. We declare our Government to no longer represent the United States of America as it has organically decided to endanger its people. Therefore, the individuals involved and the current form of the American Government itself are traitors and terrorists to our country, its ideals, and our collective way of life.

Why:

We, Occupy Los Angeles, have been and will stand behind the tenets of a Peaceful Revolution. We stand for  justice, democracy and equality through reaching out to individuals all across the world, to bring understanding and truth to the focal point in our economic, social, political, spiritual, and moral beings. We believe we have an inherent responsibility to one another that should be met through transparent and rational discussions and actions. Our Government, our greatest body of decision making in the country, has begun to declare war against it’s people. We remain steadfast in uniting the 99% against the tyranny of the 1%’s manipulative and destructive influence. We urge our Senators, our representatives, and our President, PLEASE! Stand by your people! We speak for honor, love, and a better tomorrow. We meet these ends through understanding, solidarity, transparency, and NON-VIOLENT PRINCIPALS! President Obama, this is the deciding moment in history. Stop your violent endeavors. We seek to save the world.
